Unichem was founded by Dr. H.D. Mohan in Liberia with a deep sense of purpose — to make essential medicines accessible across West Africa and to serve as a trusted gateway for leading multinational pharmaceutical companies.

With integrity and vision as his compass, Dr. Mohan built strong relationships with global giants like Pfizer, Boots, Beecham, and Glaxo, introducing their products to local markets at a time when access to reliable medication was scarce.

Unichem quickly earned a reputation for ethical business practices, cultural understanding, and top tier commitment to healthcare excellence. It wasn’t just a distribution company — it was a bridge between worlds: connecting the scientific advancements of the West with the real needs of communities in Africa.

However, when the Liberian civil war erupted, Dr. Mohan was forced to leave everything behind. Undeterred, he carried the spirit and foundation of Unichem with him and re-established the company in Ghana, a country he believed held the potential to continue his mission.

From Ghana, Unichem flourished , growing into a regional force and continuing to partner with international companies to ensure quality healthcare reached the people who needed it most.
